Preliminary Site Investigation (PSI)
As the first step in an investigation, the purpose of the PSI is to identify if your site has had any potentially contaminating history. The objective is to determine if the site has had “Hazardous Industries or Activities List” (HAIL) usage.
The report usually includes:
- Review of historic aerial images
- A search of historic titles -used to determine ownership
- Council file search
- Site walkover
- Assessment of potential contaminants
- Identification of risks to receptors (i.e. site users)
- May include limited soil sampling
Detailed Site Investigation (DSI)
The next stage of an investigation, required only if the PSI identified that it is more likely than not that HAIL activities have occurred at the site, is a DSI. This report includes:
- Collection of soil samples.
- Laboratory analysis.
- Comparison of results against appropriate guidelines.
- Refinement of risk assessment.
- Recommendations of any further work required (e.g. remediation).
Remediation Action Plan (RAP)
If site clean-up (remediation) is required, Geohazard Environmental Ltd can prepare a RAP that describes what actions should be taken to meet cleanup targets agreed between the client and the council.
Site Management Plans (SMP)
Sometimes the best way to control a site is by managing the risks to human health and the environment. This could be as simple as maintaining a barrier between contaminants and the receiving environment. A Site Management Plan formalises the steps agreed to minimise the risks.
Site Validation Report (SVR)
If remediation has been undertaken, a Validation Report is used to show to the Council that the objectives have been met, and the site is suitable for the proposed use. A validation report usually includes:
- On-site supervision of works.
- Soil and/or groundwater testing.
- A report showing the findings of the investigation.
